Friends of DIAHS

Everyone needs friends! We work with or are advised by a number of organizations on Quadra and in the area and want to acknowledge their help and provide a space for others to learn more about them.

Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce

The Chamber promotes and improve sustainable trade and commerce, and the economic, civic, and social welfare of the district. We actively promote cultural events, recreation, and education where and when ever possible. We host welcomes for newcomers to our islands, and sponsor initiatives that foster economic growth aligned with our community values. Our island communities are thriving and vibrant.

The island communities rely on tourism, local services, building trades, aquaculture, silviculture, and various home businesses as their economic foundation. Accommodation options, excellent restaurants, and coffee shops cater to visitors, while eco-tour operators in the region are recognized globally for their quality.

A vibrant artist community thrives here, encompassing musicians, potters, bicycle and boat builders, painters, sculptors, and glass blowers. Many participate in an annual Studio Tour, opening their doors to the public to showcase their crafts.

Numerous businesses in these sectors are members of the Discovery Islands Chamber of Commerce, contributing to the community’s prosperity. Critical non-profits and services, including the local fire department and emergency preparedness programs, also play integral roles within our organization.

Quadra Island Land Trust Society (QILTS)

QILTS is a registered nonprofit created by a group of Quadra Island grannies in 2024. Our mission is to acquire land to be held in perpetuity in trust in the community for a variety of community purposes. Properties can include land and/or buildings for affordable housing, affordable business space, community-based agriculture or forestry, parks, greenspaces, wildlife corridors, and land with cultural or heritage assets.

We promote ecological protection in our acquisitions and our purchases can include land requiring ecological restoration, especially if they offer additional opportunities for community engagement and education. Income generated from properties can be used to pay for land retoration adn other improvements, or placed a land acquisition fund.

Our land trust can engage in community planning, research, education and advocacy, and can enter into partnerships with like-minded community organizations. We are currently in the process of acquiring charitable tax status. Contact.

Quadra Island Seniors Housing Society

Quadra Island Seniors Housing Society offers affordable accommodation for seniors with low to moderate incomes on Quadra Island.

Established in 1995 as a registered charitable nonprofit society, our seniors’ housing residence is located in Quathiaski Cove. We serve seniors in our community who need affordable housing and may no longer be able to live completely independently.

Our goal is to provide age-friendly housing and community support services, enabling seniors to remain on Quadra for the rest of their lives, surrounded by family and friends.

Quadra Island Foundation

We are a public, charitable foundation established to support a more resilient and self-reliant community.

A key part of the foundation’s work is collaborating with groups and individuals to encourage donations (often through wills and estates) as part of a permanent fund. Income generated from ethically-sourced investments is distributed as grants to eligible charities and activities to enhance community quality of life and to protect our natural environment.

As a registered charity, the foundation provides tax receipts for donations.

The local all-volunteer board of directors and community-based grant committee engages community members to identify local needs and to inspire generosity to meet those needs. The grants committee reviews funding applications and advises the board on how best to support community projects.
